Parijata flowers
There is a Parijata tree in our residential premises. That is a part of the garden in the residential complex, wherein, we reside. Its next to the water pump room on a platform.
Parijata flowers are the official flower of West Bengal. Its found in South Asia & South East Asia. The flowers are very beautiful and delicate with five to eight white petals arranged around an orange stem which makes for the dark orange centre .
It blooms during late monsoons & the pretty flowers keep falling gently all over the place by morning...they bloom late at night. And yet, its March now & the flowers are still there.By the end of an year, the flowers dwindle in number & in mid winter, the flowers are hardly there. That's why, its a surprise that the tree is still blooming .I collected flowers today morning as well.
This Parijata blooming so late, signifies that all is not well, with the weather for which we are primarily responsible. And the corona virus spread is one of the outcomes of fiddling with Nature.
The parijata was a result of the samudra manthan & Indra had to lose it to Lord Vishnu. And then, there is the Krishna Satyabhama story where Satyabhama plants it in her yard & the flowers keep falling in the adjacent yard of Rukmini as Rukmini was more devoted to Krishna.
My late dad used to collect these flowers for Puja .He had got into this habit just some months before he left us. I took it over from him & used to gather the Parijata flowers for his puja. I collect the flowers which have fallen on the roof & the front window of the blue metallic colored car which is always parked below the small parijata tree. I then proceed to collect the flowers which have fallen on the soil on the platform where the tree has grown. Even those who have fallen, need upliftment is my belief .And yet ,who is a fallen person & who is not, is trying to impose judgement which is unfair .Because , in majority of the cases, its the society, consisting of persons like me, which the is the root cause of pushing others down for any reason/s whatsoever .And then blaming the person/s who are suppressed, for all the ills & scorning them for life.
And being offered in puja is the upliftment, I believe .Though, I know, that flowers need no upliftment unlike us . And howsoever, I try, I can never ever compare with any part of nature. Nature is superior to me & will remain so, always.
Is it, that puja or being in the service of the almighty makes those who serve God superior to others ? Doubtful indeed.Because, when God does not differentiate between those who are allegedly superior & those who are treated as inferior by us, who are we to discriminate ? But then , since we are the most evolved of Nature's species , we behave atrociously & divide ourselves into castes, classes, races, religions etal.
The parijata flowers are linked to birth as also death .It is said to be used to garland the dead. The parijata tree is also known the sorrow tree perhaps because ,the flowers wilt by late mornings .
Maybe, we need to learn humility from the parijata flowers as they fall gently .So much so, that they need not be picked from the branches. They are offering themselves to us, to be used for puja or otherwise !
