This is the story of the dreams of a simple girl, Sapna.Well, all girls dream. Yet Sapna's dreams are about calamities & disasters & about death. Sapna is stressed as she does not understand why she is dreaming all this. She manages to save a neighbour from death. Very soon , she gets famous in her locality. Then she saves, Kabir, who is an industrialist.And, soon, Sapna is on a show  on the idiot box. Her dreams are saving people who might have died if not for her ! She is being aided by Mahek & Anupama.

The dreams of Sapna are real or manufactured ? And is there any pattern to it ? Does she dream of calamities in India or all over the world ? And does she manage to save the people ? Are the people who are saved actually existing  or is this just a cover up ?

And Sapna gets famous the world over. The handsome & dashing Kabir falls for her as he knows she is smitten by him. And they get married. The show goes on & their marriage hits the rocks. The custody battle is won by Kabir. Kabir dies in an accident. Sapna gets back her son after Kabir's death.And then, things begin to change.There seems to be a design or is it an eye wash ? And some people are dead .Is this all pre planned or just natural ? And who is behind all this ? Does Spana know this or she is ignorant of all this ? What about Mahek & Anupama ? Anupama's fiance is in the police. Does he suspect something ? If so , who is on his radar ? Does Sapna's show continue ? What about Sapna herself ? How does she view herself ? How is she seen by others ? She was a simple girl who got suddenly famous. And now , has she changed for the better or worse ? Maybe, she is unrecognizable any more .

The story is so interesting that one continues to read to unravel the layers that are there. Death of a child is so poignantly described that the reader feels emphatic with the parents. And it is really a nightmare to deal with dreams of disasters , calamities & death on a daily basis.And people change so much so, that when they look at themselves in the mirror, they fail to recognize themselves. The author does not preach. Its just, that humans have their faults & their shortcomings & yet, these do not make us the devil.Humans are not saints.They are humans with some positives & some negatives.

About the Author

Deepti Menon has always believed in the power of the pen. Having done her post graduation in English Literature and her B.Ed. in English, she had the option of teaching and writing, and did both with great enjoyment. She started writing at the age of ten, long before she acquired a Diploma in Journalism. She also had the advantage of being an Army kid, and later an Army wife, and loved the idea of travelling around India, meeting new people and acquiring new skills. She firmly believes that much of her personality was honed during those travels.

In 2002, her light hearted book, ‘Arms and the Woman’, depicting life as seen through the eyes of an Army wife, was published by Rupa Publishers, Delhi. This was written mainly to reveal the warmth and camaraderie within the great institution. She is now working on her second book that is a work of fiction, and not- to-be divulged yet!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR 

Paulami DuttaGupta is a novelist and screen writer. She shuttles between Kolkata and Shillong. She has worked as a radio artist, copy writer, journalist and a television analyst at various stages of her life, having been associated with AIR Shillong, The Times of India—Guwahati Shillong Plus, ETV Bangla, The Shillong Times, Akash Bangla and Sony Aath.As an author, her short stories have appeared in various anthologies and literary magazines. A Thousand Unspoken Words is her fourth book. Paulami also writes on politics, social issues and cinema. Her articles have appeared in Swarajya, The Forthright and NElive.

Paulami is associated with cinema and her first film, Ri-Homeland of Uncertainty received the National Award for the Best Khasi Film. Her second film Onaatah—Of the Earth is at post production stage and will release in 2016. She is currently working on her third screenplay. A short film tentatively titled ‘Patjhar’ is also in the pipeline.

Paulami is a complete foodie and is almost obsessed with watching one film every day. She also loves reading—political and social commentaries are her favourite genre. Literature classics and books on cricket are also a part of her library, apart from a huge collection of romances. Jane Austen’s fictional character Mr. Darcy is her lifelong companion. She is an ardent fan of Rahul Dravid and has been following all news about him for almost twenty years now.

Book Review : Crossed & Knotted.

"Crossed & Knotted " is a novel penned by 14 authors.This itself is quite interesting as  a thread of a story is woven by so many writers ! The novel consists of 14 chapters .Each chapter is by a different author. Each chapter is a story, which is complete in itself and yet ,a part of the novel.The fourteen stories add up to make the complete novel ! The publisher is Readomania. 

The first story is about Sudip & how he falls for Megha .They marry & then begin the revealations.It unfolds like a marriage going wrong .Do they divorce or separate ? What about the child ? What is the fault of the child ? Who is at fault ?

The second story is about James or is it Joseph Varughese? How are they connected ? Is it about re birth or someone is playing tricks ?

The third story is about Siya & her family.Her son never seems to sit still.He is restless. Is there a reason for that ? Or is it just a hyperactive kid ?

In the fourth story ,there is a thread connecting Joseph Varughese.It  begins to get scary. Do such things happen ? Its like being on the edge.The next story scared me even more.It has some eerie effect to it.

And so on....the 14 stories weave a magic .It never feels that each chapter is penned by a different author.The themes are so varying & yet fit into each other like a jigsaw puzzle.There is murder,rebirth,terrorism,love affairs, super naturalism ,etal !

There will be sequels to this novel as some stories  seem to end though the readers would want them to continue further.
