Film review : Sunsilk Real FM.

"Sunsilk Real FM " is a short film by Anurag Basu who directed the much acclaimed & awarded movie "Barfi " starring Ranbir Kapoor & Priyanka. This short film is directed by Akarsh Khurana & stars newcomers & some veterans like Benjamin Gilani & Akash Khurana.

The movie is the story  of a girl , whose father is running an FM radio station. The staff is demanding a raise & revenues are falling. His staff desert him.He lands in hospital as he is too stressed out.His daughter takes upon herself  to run the show at the studios. She ropes in her friends as well. They are all novices in this work of running  a radio station .Are they able to pull it off ? What are the obstacles they encounter ? Are they able to overcome  any of them ? How do they manage  or do they trip and fall ? And do they get up & start or just  hang up The broadcast is on the 15th August & they want to do something different...the by line of  generation next ! What do they do ? Do they do anything different or is it old wine in a new bottle ? And do listeners start plugging in ?

This is a feel good movie. It has all-action ,drama, emotion & good music. It tries to weave a story about music from different states of India. It does succeed in conveying  that Indian music is different for  each state & is still similar in some ways.Unity in diversity !

The film has doses  of humour & is fast paced. That makes it interesting. It has good music throughout .The songs from the numerous states of India arouse our curiosity & goad us to explore these genres of music further. Many of us  including yours truly ,did not know that each Indian state has its unique music. The actors have all acted well...the fresh faced young ones as also the veterans.Watching Benjamin Gilani & Akash Khurana is a delight ! They are such fine actors ! They make acting  seem effortless.

It has some flaws  as well.A casual remark sounding like   "Ghar mein auratein khali baithi rahti hain  " is the one which homemakers are tired of listening.A homemaker never retires unlike others & yet ,such statements  enforces stereotypes of housewives whiling away their time at home.Their contribution is priceless ! In the movie, many people come & say that they are friends of the protoganist's  brother who is studying abroad .The movie is about what happens in a single day.How did the  brother who is supposedly in London  contact his friends when the time zones are different here & there ? Maybe, through the social media.Too far fetched.

This short film is basically the road to self discovery by the girl &  her friends.By the end of the day ,it is clear that all have discovered things that they never knew they possessed ! It is a movie, about growing up & taking responsibility & how ! In short ,the plus points override the flaws. It makes us feel good as we become one with the heroine &  her chums .Superbly engrossing fare ! Thankful  to IndiBlogger for arranging for the exclusive screening of the short film for bloggers !

The film is  is inspired by Sunsilk. The heroine  & her gang of friends have hair which is not the same for all.Sunsilk natural recharge shampoo works for all the hair types & makes it strong ! Be it curly, straight, wavy or anything else,Sunsilk natural recharge shampoo works on hair roots as it contains  ginseng root & oil.So hair cleansed with Sunsilk natural recharge shampoo is five times stronger & has fuller volume ! The Sunslik natural conditioner makes hair smoother & gives it the best of shines ever ! So for stronger hair ,go for Sunslik natural recharge shampoo  & conditioner !

Book Review : Chakra

'Chakra : Chronicles of the Witch way' by Ritu Lalit is the third book by the author. She has penned two books earlier ....namely 'A bowlful of Butterflies' & 'Hilawi'.The 'Chakra' cover shows two grey eyes of a woman through a slit in some ancient manuscript. The manuscript is shaded in hues of blue, navy blue & green .The manuscript has some Hindu symbols  Om,Trikon & others imprinted on it.The grey eyes are hypnotic...they seem to piercing through as if searching for something .The paper quality is good. The printing is very good .The book is neatly arranged into chapters. There is a prayer to Ma Kundalini, at the beginning ,before the story unfolds. It sets the stage for the saga which is based on yogic power of those who practice & swear by it .

This is the story of Parineeta, who runs a detective agency in Delhi & is caretaker to her nieces & nephew .She also takes care of Mickey ,an orphan. Parineeta searches for baubles of the rich  ladies & also goes after the flirtatious husbands. One day ,just as vacations are about to begin in school, her brother's daughter gets into some act ,which makes heads turn. All hell breaks loose after that .There are  many twists & turns in the book from then onwards, till the very end.Parineeta is frantic as she finds her nephew & niece missing. Will she be able to locate them ? Have the kids gone on a frolic of their own ? Or have they been kidnapped ? As Parineeta begins her search, she has to come to terms with her forgotten legacy. She does not want to have anything to do with it.She has lost so much because of that ,she opines.Yet,it seems, only her past can make the future better for generation next. There is a prophecy which talks of the age of the Japnis. Is Parineeta going to usher in that age ? Will her nieces be also part & parcel of that age of the witches ? And if so ,how ? How far is that day ? For all the answers,Parineeta must connect with her clan & even with rival clans & many others. There is hardly any time left before rivals close in on her nieces & nephew. Parineeta has to act fast. She has to trust those with whom she never wanted to associate. Will others heed her now, when she needs them most ?

Chakra is the story of Japas & Japnis who have a very strong Kundalini which is awake from birth. This is the saga of the clans of Bhoomars,Jalajs,Pallavs,Varunis & others like Koylas.Koylas are those who drain others emotionally. The author talks of people who venerate the elements....air,earth,fire ,water etal. She writes about the serpent ...our inherent Kundalini power which must be awakened to make us what we actually are.Ritu lalit has made the saga so interesting by taking bits & pieces from Indian myths, puranas that Chakra makes for a truly fascinating kahani !

Chakra has its bits of humor .Witness the tee shirts worn by the heroine which say it all ' HIGH MAINTENANCE BUT SO WORTH IT ','HOT n SPICY ','TALK TO MY FACE,TITS CAN'T HEAR 'etc.References to the traffic in Delhi says   that people take pot shots on traffic lights with their guns ! The tale is feminist, in its approach.Witches are going to claim the age.Witches are better at power play. The book also states that many girls are disappearing.....as female infanticide & other crimes are making survival of women difficult.

In a nutshell, this is a very readable story, set in the present age with connections to our heritage of mudras, yoga, kundalini & the power each one of us have .That innate power, which is dormant & sleeping, needs to be awakened to claim our future, from corrupt netas & an ; inefficient bureaucracy. An inspiring read  indeed

Scintillating !

I watch a comedy show on the weekends on the idiot box.I was looking forward to the grand finale on the evening of 19th August.IndiBlogger had organised The Nokia Apptasting IndiBlogger Meet at Taj Land's end ,Bandra that very evening.I was in two minds - to attend or miss.My kid was insisting that we attend. So we went & well ,I enjoyed it because the sparkling wit & humour more than made up for the Grand finale which I missed  ! It was a bonus !

The setting was five star ,all thanks to IndiBlogger  team & Nokia  & obviously Taj Land's end ,in the queen of suburbs,Bandra,Mumbai ! The hosts ,tech analyst Rajiv Makhni & Michelin Starred Celebrity  Chef  Vikas Khanna were so perfect & down to earth that we all ,bloggers felt completely overwhelmed !

The warmth of the hosts, the superb ambience ,the presenters -all in all, a Scintillating event ! We all laughed so much that we were stress free for those many hours !

The onion cutting technique - a French one  introduced by Vikas Khanna was really simple .It made me wonder, why didn't we think of it before ! Rajiv Makhni simplified the  apps for those all who were not so tech savvy like yours truly !

The quiz round revealed some interesting bits of information. The onion halwa made at Khajuraho ,the temple town. Now, we  know why the sculptures in Khajuraho are erotic  -the scupltors devoured onion halwa as they sculpted away.Nokia is the biggest manufacturer of digital cameras  -all included in their fabulous mobile phones  ! Rasam is undoubtedly the national soup of India, as revealed by Chef Vikas Khanna. As the quiz ended,we were all jealous of the winners as they won Nokia lumia phones ! We all felt that we as audience deserved them more than the winners !

To indulge the audience ,Nokia vide its Director,Communications, Poonam Kaul announced this contest wherein we could blog about the event of the evening & win Nokia Pure View if declared the best & Nokia Lumia for the follow ons at second & third positions !

IndiBlogger celebrated its fifth anniversary at the event & it showed that IndiBlogger has been able to garner the best of the worlds ! May IndiBlogger thrive & rise further up to reach the skies & beyond ! Happy B'day ,IndiBlogger -the meet was a worthy b'day bash !

Well ,this snap of me & my daughter flanked by Vikas Khanna & Rajiv Makhni is just to recall that we were indeed present at the fabulous event !

So ,I decided to blog about it through this post .My blog post cannot truly  reflect the chuckles  we had as we participated by being there clapping ,looking ,cooking ,chopping, seeing & believing that we were indeed there !

Before I close,I would like to state that wine overflowed though we were too drunk on the wit & humour of the event to even take a sip of the wines !

Thank you IndiBlogger,Nokia & Tech Guru Rajiv Makhni & Master Chef Vikas Khanna for making this meet, the most memorable ever !
